Tips for Flat Rock Grille

My new favorite place!!. My husband and I went to South Carolina for a short trip. Being from the mid-west, we don't have a lot of great seafood restaurants to choose from. We asked a few locals for great seafood suggestions and everyone said Flat Rock Grille. I have to say everything about this place was just fabulous. The food was some of the best I've ever had, the service was far and above the best service we've ever received, and the atmosphere was just great. Needless to say we were very happy with everything. We just wish this restaurant was closer to home!!

great food, terrible service. My work team went to Flat Rock on Woodruff Rd. for lunch. The food was wonderful, the service was slow! there were 6 of us and we went @11:30. It wasn't busy @all, even during the lunch rush there were several empty tables around. It took us 20 mins to get our dessert and then we had to get it to go b/c we were already late getting back to work. The waitress was not very attentive to us. We had to keep asking for refills and bread. I would recommend for the food but don't go if you want to get in and out in a reasonable amount of time.

Great Experience...as always!. My husband and I are frequent regulars at Flat Rock Grille on Woodruff Road. The restaurant, like most, has it good and bad days, and like most, we have experienced both. The hospitality and genuine friendliness from most of the staff is very welcoming. Having once worked in the service industry, we usually dine at the bar.

The bartenders, overall, are very knowledgable about their wine list, the menu, and have an overall friendly attitude. We have been there when no one else is at the bar and when there are seats to be had. During the week for dinner, the bar is always good for a quick bite to eat. The weekends bring you double the pleasure with two bartenders and we usually go on Saturday nights. The obvious comraderie between all of the bartenders is obvious and it truly shows that they enjoy working together. Roxanne, Brandon, Erin & Krystal...thanks for all the great meals!

The servers, however, are not to be ignored. Occassionally, we do choose to sit at a table or have others with us. Some of the servers have been there for several years and very professional, quick, and efficient. For an entree option we reccommend the Wasabi Tuna or any of their fresh fish. All meals are prepared to order and they are usually able to cater to most dietary needs (i.e. my no butter syndrome).

Kudos to the management for all praise and concern you show to your tables. We have witness a few times, the disgruntled customers, and how the management chooses to handle those situations. They are also always helping their staff as necessary whether it's the bartenders with their tickets or the servers bussing their tables.

Thank you Flat Rock!

Worst Visit Yet. I vistited the above mentioned Flat Rock Grille on April 8, 2008. A couple of friends and I went to your restaurant around 630 for dinner. We were greeted my the hostess who escorted us to our table. Once we got seated, we were greeted with our waiter ( whom I do not his name). He took our drink order (in which we all ordered waters) After coming back to our table we informed him that we needed a little bit more time to review the menu. Fifteen (15) minutes later, the waiter came back to our table because we flagged him down with a questions. He was very rude in answering our questions. A friend of mine wanted to sample your tomato Alfredo sauce since she did not like the way some tomato sauces tasted. He just stood there and ask, " Are you serious?" After telling him yes he then began to say, " You want me to go back and ask the chef if you can sample some sauce and look like a idiot doing it?" We informed him once again, yes. When he left the table, he went to another waitress and started pointing at us and talking. Ten (10) minutes later, he came back and said, " Well, Yall made me look like an idiot, the chef said, no you can not taste the sauce." We asked to speak with the chef and he told us "NO." We then decided that we were going to leave the restaurant and informed the waiter of this. His responses was, " Yall are going to waste the gas to go somewhere else where you will get a female waitress, who will not be as funny as I am." We then said, "Yes but thanks for the water." He continued on to say " Yeah, yall like that water, it is Fiji Water, we don?t use tab water like the restaurant you are about to go to." I think that they should get a better wait staff.

Used to be one of the best but the new management changed that.. We used to absolutely love Flat Rock, we would eat there about twice a month, sometimes more, and it was the place we took our families when they visited and wanted good food. But all that changed when the old owners were replaced. The menu was cut down in size, and some of the best items were also removed. The prices were inflated quite a bit, and the service went downhill. While the food is still good, and the restaurant has one of the best Shecrab soups, and dinner salad I have ever had, these are not worth the hassle and sometimes rude treatment by the waitestaff. If you don't mind spending a little more I would check out Blue Fire Grill, also on Woodruff Road. The ambiance is better, the service is wonderful, the food is great, and did I mention that the service was wonderful.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!. Flat Rock Grille has good food, but I've never been treated so badly in a restaurant in my life! My waitress was forgetful and negligent most of the meal, but my dining companion and I were generous and still gave her a standard tip. Before we had left the table, the waitress returned, and in a confrontational tone said, "I hope you know you didn't tip me enough." I've never been directly asked for more tip by a waitress before, especially a waitress who only came to the table once after taking our order!

Appalled, my dining companion and I asked for the manager, who rolled his eyes and exchanged exasperated looks with the waitress as we lodged our complaint. His only comment, "If you don't like it, call the owners."

A friend also had the same experience at Flat Rock with a waitress demanding more tip after a bad service experience. Word to the wise - don't eat in at Flat Rock!!

Rude employees - bad experience. For our monthly Girls Night Out, the majority choose Flat Rock because it has always been a very good restaurant and we like it. Aparently the owners have changed and the differences are more than obvious.

Since we had a party of 12, we called the day before and made a reservation for Thursday night. We all started leaving work and heading over. Three of us arrived first (5:20) and told the Hostess what party we were with. She said to let us know when everyone arrived and she would seat us. Since most of the group was right behind us, we asked if we could go ahead and be seated and she reminded us the reservation was for 5:30, suggested we wait at the bar. We said we would rather sit at the table and go ahead and get a drink, she again suggested we go to the bar as our res. was not until 5:30. (Let me point out it's Thursday night and the entire restaurant was totally empty.) We asked again why would could not be seated and she said the table is not ready yet. We have 12 people arriving and they haven't even setup the table yet. That's the point of the reservation!

We finally went to the bar for the 5 minute wait. Ordered a drink, and then the bartender got an attitude when we wanted to trasfer our tab to the table which the hostess suggested we could do.

Then after she finally setup the table - at 5:30 - and told us the table was ready. She smarted off to us as we walked by to the table. We had some minor issues with the waiter also. We called the manager over and relayed the entire story. He apologized, but did little but offer appetizers and ask us to stay, and assured the service would improve. At this point, the entire group was ready to go elsewhere so we left. We called across the street to TGI Fridays who were very packed but had a table ready for 12 people in the amount of time it took us to pay for our drinks and cross the street. We ordered, ate - great food, paid, and made it back across the street to the move in 1 hr.

The Best Cuisine & Staff!!!. I have worked at many different types of resturants ranging from 5star suit and tie to country dining, and this is the best resturant i have ever worked at!!! The staff, managers, and kitchen staff not only try to make the customers dining experience the best it can be but they also take care of their employees in every possible way!!! The kitchen staff works very hard to put the best meal a customer can have, and the wait staff and management work with each other to do the same for the customer. Flat Rock Grille will be opening it's doors on Tuesday December 4th, 2007. As for now we are having a friends and family night that is open to anyone who calls to make a reservation but space is limited and Monday December 3rd is the final day for the friends and family. I urge u all to try to make a reservation because we are giving u a free meal to better let the public see our great our food is and staff, but again, the free meal will end on Monday the 3rd. Our phone number is 704-542-7422.

Will not be returning. The food was great and so was the waiter. I however agree with one of the other reviewers. I won $100 in gift certificates from a local radio station and the restaraunt refused to honor it. I didn't fault the waiter as it was not his fault, he was just the deliverer of the bad news, but the new owners ought to know that this is not the way to earn and keep new business. I plan to tell all of my friends to not patronize this establishment.
