Good Steak, bad atmosphere. Visit was on September 17th (friday) 2010

Let me first say, the steak was good. Had a wonderful flavor. And the potatos were huge. But the good ends there. First of all, yes, it was crowded, but thats why you make reservations! We had a large group going there (10) and were seated out on the screened in porch. The atmosphere in the porch was fine, but I expected a little more than Wal-Mart patio chairs and tables. Kind of uncomfortable right from the start. Be prepared, there are no menus. No list of pricing. The menu is spoke to you. (again, no pricing) Heck, even the Chop House has menu's. Once our orders were taken we were able to go visit the "infamous" salad bar. Let down city. I enjoy the salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays much much more. And the location of the salad bar can not be much worse. Its in this little room. A room where the servers have to come in and out of at a steady pace. The line for the salad bar was long. Waited probably 5 minutes before I got a plate. guess where you stand while you wait for the salad bar? Right in between tables where people are eating. I would reccomend that if you make reservations, request a table not near the salad bar. I'm sure I wouldn't like butts in my face the whole time I'm at a restaurant. Oh yeah, then after you make your plate at the salad bar, you then have to maneuver your way through people and staff back to your table. Sure the salad bar is included in your meal price, but with all the hassle in getting it, I didn't see many people going more than once. Luckily I didn't miss the rolls off in the corner like some at the table did. (they decided against going back up to get one due to the traffic). At least I thought I was lucky I didn't forget. The roll tasted like it was a week old. Maybe I just got a bad one or something, but I didn't want to try another. So yay! Steak is served. The smell is spectacular and the taste is fabulous. Cooked exactly how it was ordered. My only problem with the steak is that mine was not cut evenly. One end was a bit more thin than the other. The thicker part was cooked perfectly, the thin part was a bit too cooked. Potatos were good as well. everyone was enjoying the food. I tried a piece of my aunts shrimp she was raving about. Helloooo liquid smoke! Its a shame too. They did have good flavor but was wayyyy over powered by the saltiness of the liquid smoke. No dessert, we were ready to go. In reality, a steak house in my eyes should be an example of ambiance and grandure. We can all cook a steak at home. And if you go to the right stores, you can get a cut of meat just as good as any restaurant. The dining out experience is just as much atmosphere as it is food. And this atmospheric experience failed in my eyes.

Why do you think they're crowded?. Every restaurant has had some customer at some time who had a bad experience--things happen. But I have been to the Peddler numerous times and have always had good service and always had good food.

The Peddler's steaks are their signature meats, of course, but try the pork chops--they're superb. While there is no "outside" seating, the porch of this Peddler has a wonderful atmosphere.

Yes, the restaurant is very busy, and a big crowd on a weekend will create a wait. Why do you think there is a crowd? Use your head. Locals know that it's tough to beat the Peddler for the quality of food. Yes, you can find a restaurant with more "fluff," that's more pretentious, where you can pay for someone to put on some sort of show and make out like you're getting more for your money than you're actually getting. Or you can go to the Peddler and just eat high on the hog and go away wanting to come back next week.

landmark restaurant. since 1969, the peddler has been offering great steaks, chicken and fish, cooked over live charcoal complimented with the most unique salad bar anywhere and located in a beautiful setting with an attentive staff

User review by rsnatl. Ribeye steak awful and full of FAT. Highly overpriced. No handicap parking. Waited over 45 mins to get food once we ordered and one of party waited 30 minutes more before they got their meal. Very BAD experience. Never will eat again at this place. Not worth the trouble or the price.
