Safe place for piercing and paraphanalia – I am a writer for a nationally syndicated magazine. I am researching an article on marijuana. The sign said “Up in Smoke” so I went in. The first thing I noticed was the South Carolina Department of Revenue license clearly displayed on the wall. The place is small but very comfortable. I have been in many head shops across the country and this one of the nicest I’ve been in. The counter showcase is evenly divided between piercing jewelry and smoking accessories. I felt very comfortable even though I am 70 and the other customers were in their 20’s and 30’s. I was greeted by a middle aged lady with a smile and a soft demeanor. I asked to look at several items in the showcase. The quality was superior to those I had seen elsewhere. After I disclosed my mission as a writer I met Todd. He was busy putting piercing jewelry on display but stopped to talk with me. We discussed the politics, laws and issues on marijuana. He was one of the most educated and knowledgeable people on the subject of cannabis I have met. As I left he was quietly speaking to a client about piercing. Although I’m not into piercing, this is a place I would recommend because it’s cleanliness and Todd’s knowledge, professionalism and peaceful demeanor…and if you’re looking for a gift for a smoker friend, this is where you will find the quality stuff.
Todd is the best !!!! – I went to Up in Smoke just over a week ago to get my lip pierced. Todd was so friendly, and courteous. He asked me if I had any questions before, and after piercing me. I got exactly what I wanted , and it looks fantastic! I would recommend Todd at Up in Smoke to any one looking to get a great piercing!
Piercings – i've always been a biiiiig whatever3 person. thats where i went to get my lip, tounge, and belly button pierced. so when my bestfriend suggested we go to up in smoke ,where she got her tounge done, when i wanted to get a horozontal eyebrow piercing i was kind of hesitant. i'd never been anywhere else but i agreed to go.
as soon as we walked in i met todd. LOVED HIM. he was so funny and answered all of my questions about the list of piercings they had advertised. he was very funny and extreamly helpful. he explained when we told him that we both wated the horozonal eyebrow piercing that it wouldnt work as well on her bc she has a "flat forehead" (hahaha) instead of just going ahead and doing it. so after heming and hawing for a few she decided to get her septum pierced which shes wanted for awhile, much to my dismay... i think its reminisant of a certian farm animal =]
then it was time to get started.
he wouldnt let us pay first saying it was bad luck, so he lead us to the piercing room and it was decided i would go first. he marked my newly waxed eyebrows and i looked in the mirror, decieded i liked the position, then he gatherd the materials needed. all of which came out of vaccum sealed bags. the room looked like an add for mr.clean =] haha. but he told me to lay down bc he had to push it through slowly since he couldnt clamp it the way vertical piercings are done.
then.... it came. he pushed it through and it didnt hurt. not even a little. this is big coming from someone who thought her belly button was hell.
and then it was done. he told me all of the ways to clean it, what to use, what not to. cleared my mind of the myths about dial soap, told me how to make my own salt water solution, told me how long it will take to heal, and also let me know... again... that it was a surface piercing and that it could come out. kinda gross. (but he pierced it so that the entire bar was hidden so i'd know if it were being pushed out ) he let me know the do's and dont's of it all, and so on and so forth. it was the best expirence i've had when getting a new piercing.
up in smoke might be a little more pricey but their materials are great and todd is wonderful. i'd recommed it to anyone wanting to get something done
Extremely knowledgeable piercing – Whoa!! I have several piercings and have been to quite a few piercing parlors, but this place is hands down better than any other I have been in. I had heard from friends that if I went to Up in Smoke I wouldn't ever go anywhere else, and my friends were right. The piercer was what really got my attention. Todd took his time with me and answered all my questions. I didn't feel like I was a bother to ask questions(Like I did in most parlors)even though other people were waiting. They have a nice selection, stuff I had never seen before and they were happy to let me order exactly the jewelry I wanted since the jewels and setting I wanted on my belly button ring was not common.
I also learned reasons why I have had problems with a few of my piercings that I've had for years. I never got a straight answer from other places. He had all the answers and then some, but didn't make me feel stupid. I also really liked that he carried aftercare for my belly button but didn't make me feel like I had to buy it. He actually showed me how I could make my own sea salt solution.
Overall their prices are a bit higher but it is totally worth it, I haven't had the slightest problem with my new piercing. Simply said, this place ROCKS!!!!!!
