This is Carl Sobocinski's long standing tribute to the fact that you can always bank on finding people that care much more about status and appearance than quality and service. I am always disappointed when I leave. The menu is very limited. The food is marginal at best. The portions are laughable at the price you are paying. Some of the waitstaff are great, but overall you are rolling the dice. I ordered an $8 glass of wine that tasted like embalming fluid. I asked the waitress for something else. When she brought my new glass (20 minutes later) I told her she could go ahead and take my first glass. She looked me dead in the face and said "Oh yeah. I should have told you that tasted like crap." and then it was ON MY BILL!!!! The building is beautiful inside and out. However, it is very dark inside and you can absolutely forget about hearing anything the rest of your table says.
I will never understand why Soby's stays so packed. There are SO many better places to spend your money in Greenville.
Big Bar. Soby,s food quality is just not there. Presentation is wonderful but the product grade is below standard for what is charged. The restaurant take on a Big Bar feel Thurs thru Sat.
New South. Soby's is one of the best places in town to eat. There is an open kitchen to watch the chefs prepare your food. Everyone is very professional and hospitable. They always have a vegetarian or vegan entree or will accomodate dietary restrictions without trouble. The menu is forever changing and they are one of only restaurants in town with a certified pastry chef. The dessert menu is unique and also changes frequently.
